Things needed:
Lobster clasp or S hook with one end opened
Embroidery thread
Here's part three! This will cover the lead rope. You can use a long piece of grosgrain or ribbon instead, but I find the braided lead ropes much more realistic and still extremely easy. First, figure out how long your lead rope should be. Add an extra inch or two, then double the length. Measure out another piece of string the same length. Next, thread both pieces of embroidery thread through the clip. Line the ends of the thread up, so you have four strands of thread. To start braiding, anchor your lead rope to something(I find my toe convenient), and split the thread into four strands. To start the braid, take the strand the farthest to the right and pass it under the two starnds to the left. Then bring the strand up and over the second strand. Then bring the first strand under the two strands to the right, and come over the third strand from the left. Repeat until you reach the length you want, then tie a knot or put a dab of superglue on the end. This variation of the four strand braid will also create a spiral effect if two colors are used. EDIT: Added tags.

Thanks for the tutorial. This is all new to me but fortunately I am well equipped for nearly any craft project. Today I made and your halter and bare back pad and! Tomorrow I am hoping to make the lead line after getting my COVID vaccination. Wish me luck with both.

AuthorI've been in the model horse hobby actively for about four years. My main interests are customizing, tackmaking, and showing, although I do like to venture into the different aspects of the hobby also. Aside from model horses I ride real horses, and also dabble in leather crafting. Hope you enjoy my blog! Archives
